Hort & Pott "Winter Tides" Brand Film

Todd and Carter are known for their ability to build worlds that seem to reflect the parts of our imagination that we’ve forgotten about. In their space, the ability to imagine what is possible changes. Together, they use design and detail to create emotion and manifest exquisite vignettes which have had the ability to transform one’s relationships with both the interior of their space and also with the natural landscape that surrounds it.

“Winter Tide” Brand Film for Hort and Pott, Produced, Directed and Edited by Mia Allen

After directing and editing a short documentary about Hort and Pott in 2021, I was elated when Todd and Carter reached out to work together again. Their vision was to make a ~ 90sec brand film showcasing the natural and sourced elements that they have in their shop in celebration of the holiday season.

I worked alongside them to craft an elegant script and we filmed in and around their property in two days. The finished piece is a window into the immersive wonderland that they have almost entirely hand-crafted. Being in their space leaves no wonder to why it is tradition to gather during the days of barren brush. In Todd’s words, “It is the fire in the depths of winter that soothes the soul and creates the ambiance essential to our holiday vision.”

Social cutdowns were also created for use on Instagram and YouTube Stories. Thanks to my second camera operator, Skyler Sumner, and the endlessly beautiful space we had the privilege of working in, there was no shortage of gorgeous footage to craft with. My immense gratitude to Yehezkel Raz for not only supplying the music for this entire collection, but also inspriring much of it with his curious and methodical sounds.

Thank you, Todd and Carter, for creating spaces that spark imagination and potential where it might have otherwise been overlooked.
