Self-Portraits on my Birthday

Making something on my birthday is something of a tradition I have. I don’t usually know what it will be before the day comes. I seek the wild abandon of creative flow - finding theme and therapy as I feel my way through the process.

When I edit, I am able to see what my heart wants to say and I work to put the messages together. They are a representation of me, today, now. A love letter, a deep cry, a reflection.

I know now more than ever the challenges we all must overcome as we earn our years. It can be beautiful and it can be devastating. The travesties of our current times create collective trauma, and to some degree, we are all in a state of mourning. Emotions need to be felt and understood. One way to discover them is to make art.

With that in mind, here is a short “art film” that I made this morning, reflecting on my 36 years of life today. It is a meditation, a dream, a wish, and a prayer.

Thank you for reading,
